I'd say this is going as well as a sequel to Waterworld. Havent been able to work on it much for the past couple days, but I sat down to it last night to try and get it back on track. I also opened a nice bottle of Shiraz. Here are the results.

Another good friend, and wife to one of my best, asked me to do up a couple logos for this really cool line of 'All things Baby' she's trying to launch. These are a few of the sketches I did and a couple finished(more or less) 'logos'. A little too busy for my tastes in logos, but I can only play with the clubs I was given.

Just got back from a really great trip home to Halifax this last week. The occasion was a couple of my friends, Alex and Heather just got hitched, so I flew back for the stag party the weekend before, and just hung out all week until the wedding the following Saturday. Great time. Halifax? It's on the east coast. North East of Maine. Never been, huh? I suggest going. Trust me. Except don't go between the months of Febuary-April. Trust me.

The topic today was 'Vikings'. This image depicts Clan Greggors felling of the Ogre of Morne Cragilic Noor. It was Jorg that delivered the final blow and brought the terrible monster down, but the victory was not had without the great sacrifice of the archer Durins' brother Balo, who saved his younger brother from the axeblow aimed at him. It was Durin's rage filled arrow-work after his brothers death that created the hand holds all up the monsters body that Jorg used to climb to head and cut its throat.

The topic was 'My Pet Monster'. This little fella crushes babies dreams. Just kidding, he just eats them. The babies that is.

The topic was 'Classic Monster in Modern Day' I picked Wolf-Man.

The topic was 'Circus Freak'. This is not gonna be one of those stories where hidden under a hideous exterior lies the heart of a poet and it will take a courageous woman with the ability to able to see past the deformity to discover the truly incredible human being inside. Anyways, heres a picture of a cat and her pals playing in the snow.

The story is its the year 3000. A nuclear war a millenia ago brought about a new ice age, as well as the near total annihilation of the human race. Now, the world is a startlingly different place. Cats are the size of horses, but have remainded a friend of humanity. Ironically, dogs are now mortal enemies of man, as well as now being the size of elephants. They hunt in packs of 20 or more and are feared above no other of this worlds terrifying array of new predators. Krill has mutated to become an airborn spore, and so followed the number one consumer of their pink, microscopic deliciousness. That's right, Whales. Or should I say Sky-Whales.

No...I shouldn't.

Anyways, this is a picture of Krontos, Breela and Mr.Scrunchymuffinkins (the third) out on a hunt for more Sky-Whale meat for the tribe.

Hey, what's happening mah blizzog? Been a while, I know...What? What's with the look? So what, I go away without talking to you or calling you or even giving you a second though for 2 whole weeks and now I'M the bad guy who deserves the cold-shoulder silent treatment? Well thats fucking just great. What are you, like 3? Oh, now you want to talk..Uh no, I really DON'T have to expalin myself to you, but I'm going to anyways, but not cause you threatened me. First off, I went to New-Found-Land (and hold up/brake screech/sidenote, lemme tell ya I just LOVE people who pronounce it this way...LOVE, fuckers) to see one of my bestest pals get all hitched up. To a lady. Forever. I also seemed to have been entered in some fucked up reverse triathalon where you're forced to drink like 20 beers, spin around till dizzy, sleep for 20 minutes and then snowshoe up a mountain. I'm not totally sure though, its all kind of a blur.

Then I came back from that winter wonderland of cool Canadian ice, (and the cool Canadian beer thats been chilling in said ice since we got back to the motel for the after hours party like 5 hours ago. I had really better go check on those, cause if you aren't careful, those'll freeze up on you and just explo...Ah, for fucks sakes! The beers've frozen up and exploded!) to hot as fuck Dallas, bird flu in tow. Lemme tell ya, this last week has been wicked. High five air guitar solo but the opposite of that.

Anyways, heres a drawlin' I did. It symbolizes my struggle to open up emotionally to the people in my life. The soul of a man encased in a metal body that is unable to give, or recieve, love in any form. And the chain-arm ball-mace weapon thingy symbolizes mans inhumanity to man.

And that it....Gonna have to be calling this beast done....for now. Theres still a ton of stuff not quite right yet (no background anyone?), but I'm gonna flip out if I keep looking at this peice. Its kinda like that scene at the end of 'The Never Ending Story", where Atreyu's horse gets all sad and then goes to sleep in the mud. You're kinda sad for a sec, but then you realize it's his freaking fault. He went to sleep in a fucking swamp.

Also, what the hell is up with the ending of that movie? All dude has to do is yell out a name, and boom, the little hottie (at the time. No need to set up the pedo-sting cameras just yet jackasses) princess and all her little pals get to keep on breathing. MEGAN! KENDAL! JENNIFER! How fucking hard was that retard?

Lots of big changes. Added more to the bottom to show a little more of Medusas' tail. Also, Perseus/Conan has gone from the frying pan to the fire. Still struggling with the face. I want it to look like he's not only getting constricted by the tail, but he's trying as hard as he can to keep his eyes shut. I might give him a sword so he still has a chance.

Captains log...Day 3...Should have gotten into port yesterday, but a strange mist has rolled in. Compass is spinning. I fear this night holds a terrible end for me and my intrepid crew....so just me. I'm intrepid.

Well, that last 2 weeks have been busy to say the least. But I'm back, and to prove my newly strengthened commitment to the daily update, a rare Sunday edition of Americas least browsed Blog.

One of the ninjas, Paul Warzecha, is thinking about entering the DOMINANCE WAR contest hosted partly by Polycount.com. The theme this year is Intergalactic Bounty Hunter, so I did this. The idea is it's some big guy being taken over by some sort of gigantic parasitic space mantis......from space.

Turns out though, the rules state the guy has to be like 80% robotic, so against my 0% now, it looks like I'm gonna have to add some, you know, shiny crap.

Getting up close and personal with her tonight. I like the idea that she has different sized snakes as hair.Seems freakier that there are little garden snakes and adders all 'snaking' around her face together. Once again she is shirtless. I just figure a chick with a head full of live snakes and the ability to turn anyone who looks upon her to stone prolly has the self confidence to go around with the twins hanging out.

Yeah. Another quick sketch. Trying to see if I want to try and add a big set around my characters, and make that be the story. This just kept getting muddier and muddier and there was no saving it. Its a little detatched, but I like the composition still. The tail totally framing the scene seems way over the top now, and the worst part is it hardly reads. I'll definitely take the top curl out of any further incarnations. The idea of this scene, and the initial confrontation still seems pretty solid. I'm definitely going to try and shoot this from a few angles around the room to see if I can up the drama a little more. If I was better with lighting, I'm sure I could punch this up too, but alas, I aint.

Little Red Riding Hood image I inked up for the Sixfatninjas.com Wizard World Texas sketchbook I mentioned in last fridays post. Lost the .psd to this peice too.....which sucks, cause I spent a freaking long time inking it up all nice and junk (again, all of it was done in photoshop. If anything came out of this last sketchbook experience, it's that I now feel 100% more confident throwing down a solid black line). I'm still really happy with the idea, and my fascination with all the imagery this story offers seems to be near limitless (and by limitless, I mean I have 6 more ideas), so it's no stretch for me to say this will definitely become one of the major themes of this terrifying blog into a broken mans psyche.

No idea where this came from....just started drawing and BAM, Angel falling apart. Kinda fucked up the neck, but didn't realize until I flipped it to the side for the I set the final composition. I worked on her falling up, and I'll be damned if it didn't look good that way. I really like the way the pose turned out though. Feels kinda half way between over-posed and naturalistic. The black BG was also an afterthought. It sorta works, but my hour(point5) was up, and I don't want to be behind a computer anymore.

A bunch of little throw away monster designs I did for the sketch book the fellas at SFN put together for Wizard World Texas last year. I wanted to really try for a new, clean line, computer inked style for these. I like they way they turned out.

Funny story, I lost every single .psd I made for my sketchbook this year, and it was a ton of work. Wait, that story wasn't funny at all. I actually wanted to revisit these and add some color to these creeps, but with the .psd's M.I.A, looks like this may be as far as they'll ever get.

My second Suicide Girl in as many nights. I sketched her out during a meeting today. Like this a lot better than last nights, but I really wanted so much more for the hair and tats (Imagination FTL), but the 1hr mark rolled around and I want to force myself to stop there for these Blog posts (for the speedpaints at least) I like the stylization I'm getting in the bodies though. I'm definitely trying for a wonky sexiness, and this is closser to the mark in that regard fer shure.

I'd also like to add that I don't think every Suicide Girl is a vampire. Just the hot ones.

Well, Sinc got me a gift certificate for Bud Plant for Crimmiz/My Birthdayand what do I go and do....Buy porn. Seriously though, I friggin' love the Suicide Girls. Hot, blue (or Pink)haired, half naked girls all tatted up. I grudginly accept.
So yeah, expect to see a theme arise over the next few (thousand) posts. Started this one thinking it was gonna be a 1hr Speed Paint. Turned out to be a 2 hr frustration fest as me and photoshop and my Cintique got to know each other again after the long break. Good times. That being said, I'm never truly satisfied with anything that I try and start directly in CG. I don't know what the block is, mentally or technically (both?), but I must approach a peice differently from that of just sitting and sketching it out old school pencil-to-paper styles. That'll be how I do tomorrow without a doubt. Tonights offering displeases me.

P.S I got a J.K Waterhouse and Bruce Timm book with the gift certificate as well. The Waterhouse book is unreal. Those old masters are kinda jerks, what with their perfect color, composition, lighting and anatomy. Bruce is a jerk too, but in a different way. Rest assured though, I hate them both.
